Spirited Spots
Spirited Spots keenly explores texture and material. Having varied textile materials, such as plywood, linen, cotton drill, gloss wallpaper, and carpet, helps to visually stimulate by adding texture, depth, and visual interest to GeoJoy samples.
Through thorough sample testing and research into appropriate materials, the decision to use a ‘gloss’ finish was applied to all wallpaper samples.
This choice was informed by the glosses ability to enhance pigment and reflect colours successfully when exposed to light. Testing found that a matt finish flatted the colours and darkened the pattern, therefore making it an undesirable choice for GeoJoy samples.
Hospitals materials must be selected with material durability in mind.
When selecting the fabric for GeoJoy, I considered what fabric would not only be suitable for a setting of care, but also had hard wearing qualities. This is why fabric samples for soft furnishings mostly use a cotton drill. This is a waited, thick and durable fabric. Its qualities also possess being very absorbent of pigment, making it extremely successful for digital printing.
